History

In March of 2012 Furry Friends became a 501(c)(3) organization known formally as Furry Friends Foundation, Inc. 

The Furry Friends Holiday Pet Food Drive began in 1992 with cooperation from the Sisters Kiwanis Club, the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District and The Nugget Newspaper. What began as a yearly pet food drive became a year-round pet food bank.

During the winter holidays a pet food drive is still conducted for families with pets; the food is combined with the Kiwanis Food Share program and the toys and gifts collected through the local fire department. Families in need are identified through applications as low income. The holiday program is funded through food and cash donated from individuals and businesses in the community.

Approximately 87% of the yearly budget for 2024 went towards the purchase of pet food, toys and treats, spay/neuter and vaccination sponsorships and veterinary assistance, 13% was spent on administrative expenses, including rent, phone and insurance. Furry Friends Foundation is entirely run by volunteers, no individual is paid a salary for his or her time.
